DOUBLETREE GUEST SUITES ACHIEVES GREEN DESIGNATION
NAPLES, FL (February 20, 2008)—The Florida Department of Environmental
Protection today recognized Doubletree Guest Suites as a One Palm Green Lodge, a title
bestowed on hotels… This designation recognizes Doubletree Guest Suites and its staff
for their commitment toward protecting and conserving Florida’s natural resources.
Initiatives by staff members and the cooperation of hotel guests contribute to
Doubletree’s ability to stay green, according to the hotel’s Chief Engineer Ralph Lustik.
While his department works to replace light bulbs with more energy efficient minispirals,
implement photocells instead of timers, increase the rating of air filters, and
install temperature control for guest suites, Doubletree team members have developed
recycling efforts in the hotel’s kitchen, business center, gift shop, and other areas of the
hotel. Recycling bins are strategically placed poolside and near vending machines for
guest awareness.
"The DoubleTree Guest Suites Naples team is committed to pursuing and
reinventing ways to reduce, reuse and recycle as part of our ongoing efforts to contribute
to the protection of the environment and the preservation of the earth's resources for
future generations to enjoy,” said Jennifer Robbins, general manager of the DoubleTree
Guest Suites Naples. “We have been very pleased at the guest response to Doubletree's
green initiatives. People are concerned about our environment and appreciate seeing
similar efforts that they subscribe to at home being done at our hotel."
Doubletree Guest Suites, Naples already has in place low flow toilets and faucets
and an on call energy reduction program in place through Florida Power and Light. The
new green initiatives take Doubletree Guest Suites to the next level of environmental
awareness.
On July 13, at his Serve to Preserve Florida Summit on Global Climate Change,
Governor Crist signed three executive orders initiating state energy-use policies. The
Summit was a bold first step to explore groundbreaking technologies and strategies that
will place our state at the forefront of the growing worldwide movement to reduce
greenhouse gases.
Launched in March 2004, the Florida Green Lodging Program establishes
environmental guidelines for hotels and motels to conserve natural resources and prevent
pollution. As reward for designation, Florida is recommending Green Lodges to
companies and trade organizations seeking environmentally conscious lodging and
convention facilities.
